Istituto Italiano di Cultura (IIC) - Italian Cultural Institute
The Italian Cultural Institute is the Cultural Office of the Italian Consulate General in Los Angeles. Italian Cultural Institutes (90 institutes on 5 continents) support the work of Italian embassies and consulates, by promoting Italian culture. They both organize cultural events in a wide range of fields, as well as offer language and culture courses, and facilitate all manner of exchange, collaboration, and production of culture and cultural events.

"The IIC of Los Angeles was founded in 1986, and moved to its current location in Westwood Village at the beginning of 1995. For this purpose, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy purchased a small, 1950's Angelino-style building (the former UCLA International Student Center on Hilgard). The IIC's area of jurisdiction includes Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. It promotes Italian culture and recent artistic developments in all sectors: from film to theater, music to visual arts, literature to architecture and design, fashion and cuisine."

The IIC of Los Angeles has its own theater: the Sala Rossellini (128 seat capacity), projection room, large screen, a small stage for theater performances and a Fazioli Grand Piano for concerts. Art, photo, architecture and design exhibitions are housed in its gallery, Galleria Spazio Italia. Events are free and open to the public (but advance reservations are required). Annual membership however, confers affed benefits: access to the IIC multimedia library and borrowing privileges, as well as priority in reservations for cultural events held at the IIC, and discounts on tickets to co-sponsored cultural events held at other institutions (theaters, museums, galleries, etc.). The IIC publishes a calendar of events every two months, events are free of charge. One may also subscribe to their e-mail list to receive announcements of upcoming events:

Education Office (Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles) This office was opened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 2002 to promote the study of Italian language and culture within the Consulate of Los Angelesí jurisdiction (Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico). At first it included the consular area of San Francisco, that has now, since 2006-07 academic year, its own education office. Other offices are in Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Detroit, Philadelphia and Houston. The Education Office coordinates and supervises language and culture courses by collaborating with schools interested in the teaching of Italian as part of their curricular activities , and with associations involved in promoting Italian language and culture (see: Fondazione Italia http://www.fondazione-italia.org and Fondazione Azzurra http://fondazioneazzurra.org). The office also establishes agreements with the State/County Departments of Education and with school districts to implement Italian language instruction where there is an Italian American presence.

The Italian government agency entrusted with the promotion of trade, business opportunities and industrial co-operation between Italian and foreign companies. Committee for Italian Residents Abroad(COM.IT.ES.: Comitato Italiani all'Estero) This is the official representative arm (an elected body) of Italian citizens residing abroad, mediating their needs in their interactions with the Italian Consulate. They help identify "the social, cultural and civic needs of the Italian community [Ö] and foster[s], for the benefit of the Italian community, the programs and initiatives that are pursuant to the betterment of social, cultural, professional, school-related, and recreational well-being." COM.IT.ES. of Los Angeles represents Italians in: Arizona, California (Imperial Valley, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Louis Obispo, and Ventura counties), New Mexico, and Nevada.
